"Snowflake" World's Only Known Albino Silverback Gorilla

Our hearts are filled with deep admiration for such a remarkable creature. His name was "Snowflake" and to this day is still the world's only known albino silverback gorilla. He spent almost all his life in the Barcelona Zoo in Spain. Snowflake was believed to be born in 1964 and was later captured on October 1st, 1966, by a Fang farmer named Benito Mañé who was also responsible for killing the rest of his gorilla group. Benito then sold him to primatologist Jordi Sabater Pi in Bata. From Bata, he was then transported to Barcelona Zoo by Jordi. Snowflake had poor vision, which was believed to cause photophobia, an experience of discomfort or pain in the eyes due to light exposure. It could be debated that with this condition, captivity could have saved his life due to the nature of gorillas in the wild. In 2001 Snowflake was diagnosed with an unusual form of skin cancer which could have been because of his albinism. By 2003 his health had deteriorated to a point in which they felt it best to euthanize him. Snowflake was euthanized on November 24, 2003. They believed him to be somewhere between 38-40 years of age. We pay our respects to a one-of-a-kind creature. This was sourced from Wikipedia.
